IGNORANT MUSLIMS AND #BLACKLIVESMATTER

The fact that Muslims are asking about rulings on whether they can support BLM or not...is just one of the many examples of racism against blacks within the Muslim community. Seriously, wtf. I've had enough of this crap. 

Yes we should also protest against the loss of Muslim lives in Iraq, Somalia and all those other places but they're not getting killed for being Muslims. Muslims are killing Muslims. The same people killing the same people. Over here, Black people are getting killed by White police officers for being Black because of the colour of their skin. A different race killing those of a different race. That's the difference and hence the name "Black lives matter" because clearly they don't to many racist White police officers.

The sheikh also says it's hypocritical for Muslims to support Black lives and not Muslim lives. He said this movement is something for "them" and not for "us". He is completely ignorant of people like me who are both Muslim AND Black. Muslims supporting Black Lives Matter ARE supporting their fellow Muslim brothers and sisters like Abdirahman Abdi, a Somali-Canadian, who was killed this year by police despite being unarmed AND mentally ill.

There are those who will argue that we should not criticize sheikhs when they're wrong because of the knowledge they have. What the sheikh has said is completely wrong and his position as a sheikh and being knowledgeable does not

1. make him free of making errors

2. excuse him when he says the wrong thing

3. give him the right to never be questioned

In the Quran, Allah tells us to use our brains. To question. So no, I do not accept what the sheikh has said because it's questionable, contradictory, and I disagree. Notice how he hasn't made any reference to the Quran and the Hadith to support his statement. His statement is based only on personal opinion! If it was truly haram, he would have evidence from the Quran and Hadith. In addition, sheikhs and knowledgeable people like Omar Suleiman and Suhaib Webb would not be supporting Black Lives Matter, but they are! They get it because they know they are also supporting Muslims.

Even if all Black people were non-Muslims, Muslims should still support the movement regardless because it's a stand against injustice. Allah didn't say stand up for justice only when the victims are Muslims. We should stand up against wrong no matter who is being wronged. Justice is so important that we must stand up for it even against our own mother and father. And that's part of what makes Islam beautiful.

"O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for God, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives..." (Quran 4:135).

Justice is for ALL.
